The Story Behind Myrtle
Updated: Dec 4, 2018
Some of you might be wondering why we chose Myrtle Creative Co. as our new company name. And as our first blog post on our new site – we thought it only fitting to answer that very question.
The idea of changing our company name has been on our minds for the last year. Ann Marie Photography was no longer a fitting business name as we are now, and have been, a Wife + Husband Photography team.
When I first started my photography business it was just me in the business. I was a new business owner and it just seemed like the right name for me. My first name is Ann, my middle name is Marie – Ann Marie Photography just happened. However I came to realize that there were many others who had came to the same conclusion across the country. Sharing a business name with many others across the country can make it difficult on social media and putting together a unique website. I had realized my mistake too late. It was already set with the state and there was no turning back at that time.
Now almost four years later, so much has changed and we were in a position to make the company name change we knew we needed to make. It was no longer just me. Adam went from being my sounding board to my tech expert to my lighting guy to my second shooter and just continues to add so much to our company. Adam and I have grown to be a rock solid team and have future plans to expand. We have been refining our style and determining our preferred photography niche. All of this became apparent, but we still had the big question – what would our new company name be?
Choosing a company name, for the second time around, I was more aware of all aspects concerning the name. We took our time putting together ideas. Many times to have a full list of ideas and not liking any of them. Many ideas were already taken. Others were just not quite what we wanted. We were looking for something unique, yet general enough to allow room to grow which we envision happening in the coming years.
When it comes to company names, my mind generally wanders straight to a logo. Which can be a distraction in its own way, however in this instance it was helpful. I was picturing something natural and perhaps plant based so I started looking up plant names and what they symbolized. Lo and behold I came across:
“It is said that the myrtle plant is sacred to Demeter and to Aphrodite. This is a plant that is also sacred to Venus. It should be no surprise that the myrtle plant is actually a symbol of love and is the Hebrew symbol for marriage.”
Love has been such a key factor in all that we do, and especially in our photography. Finding a plant name that symbolized love and marriage was so fitting for us. Putting together Myrtle Creative Co. became simple after that. We are very excited to have a unique name across Instagram and Facebook! And the ironic part, when I did put together the logo, I shied away from plant or nature usage to hopefully prevent any confusion as to what we do. Perhaps in the future those might be added...
We are excited to announce our new company name and welcome you to join us on our creative journey. We might seem new, with this new name, and having to create an online presence (on some platforms) all over again. However we are still Ann Marie and Adam – your wife + husband wedding photography team. We still specialize in vibrant photography for the adventurous at heart. We cannot wait to meet you (Learn more about us here) and adventure with you. Look forward to chatting soon!
